Annual Symposium on Sufism
The Annual Symposium on Sufism will bring scholars together to examine the Sufi traditions that shaped the religious, literary, and cultural life of the Bengal Delta. This year’s theme, Sufism in the Bengal Delta: Countering & Encountering Sacred Landscapes, will explore how poets and saints helped make Islam in Bengal, and how the region’s rivers, waters, and sacred geographies have shaped Sufi devotion and memory.
Organized by the Nisbaat Center for Sufi Studies in collaboration with the Bangladesh Student Association at Harvard University, the symposium will be inaugurated by Hazrat Syed Mohammad Hasan Maizbhandari, President of the Nisbaat Center and Sajjadanshin of Maizbhandar Darbar Sharif, Chattogram. Two academic sessions, Poetry, Sainthood, and the Making of Islam in Bengal and Re-Enchanting the Hydrosocial, will feature researchers from leading universities in the United States.
